From being repeatedly silenced growing up, I subconsciously learned that my opinion didn’t matter. That I had no value to offer. That no one liked me.
But as I grew up, I couldn’t stay silent anymore. Because silence was dying a slow death.
This is a truly powerful exercise I suggest you do if you are letting the fear of judgement dictate your life + your ability to show up in your business.
What’s the worst thing someone could say to you?
And now, how can you make peace with that?
For me, the worst thing someone could do was CONTRADICT my opinion or my truth. Didn’t matter if it was a small thing like what outfit I was wearing, or how my dance performance went or bigger affairs like invalidating my feelings around my own experience.
I see this show up for my clients too. They end up wearing a mask. Showing an acceptable version of themselves to the world.
So how do you make peace with yourself?
You don’t accept OTHER PEOPLE’S truth as YOUR Truth.
You embrace the fact that not everyone will understand you
You stop seeking approval or validation from others.
I walk myself through these 3 steps every time I fear showing up in my business and art.
Here’s another example. Imagine you fear being called stupid. You fear someone leaving a nasty comment on your content, which you’ve spent years mastering your craft or cultivating your knowledge and expertise.
Who determines that you are stupid? Is it an internal voice? Is it coming from past bullies or parenting? Where is the voice coming from? Expose it!
Affirm to yourself that you love and believe in yourself.
Remind yourself (daily!) that you are enough. You are smart. You are talented.
Notice the theme? It all comes from you!
We strengthen our ability to show up when we stand strong and solid in our truth.
